Instagram has welcomed its reels in 50 countries and made a similar concept like TikTok.. There are around 800 million monthly active users, with 1.5 billion downloads. India alone has 323 million downloads, making it one of the top markets for TikTok.
With users being in millions and billions, Instagram has found no reason to not launch this feature. Instagram has surely rolled out reels at the right time when there was a decision taken by India to ban TikTok and other Chinese apps over privacy issues. The ban on Chinese apps really knocked TikTok from its largest overseas market and left a huge opportunity to swoop on the users of TikTok to reel.
Reels is a new way to record a 15 seconds video by adding its own audio or videos, which can be shared on Instagram feeds or in the reels section. Reels is designed to be a feature within Instagram itself, and it has a higher chance of success due to its exposure and familiarity in the market.
